Dance and doctrines explored during conference July 17-18

The Brigham Young University Department of Dance with support from the BYU Museum of Art will host “Embodied Believing: Faith in Motion” Friday and Saturday, July 17-18, at the Museum of Art and the Richards Building Dance Studio.

During a day and a half of presentations, discussion, performance and movement, a community of dancers will join together to explore the relationship between the discipline of dance and the doctrines of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

On Friday, July 17, a keynote panel will address the theological, aesthetic and philosophical implications of having a corporeal body. Panelists will include BYU religion professor Robert Millet, visual artist Chris Young and professor of philosophy Travis Anderson.

Other highlights of the event will include dancing in interactive ways with the exhibits in the BYU Museum of Art, demonstrations of choreography by Latter-day Saints, a movement session that focuses on the integration of the body and the spirit and presentations that focus on dance as it reveals eternal truths.

Registration is $35, which includes a box lunch on Saturday. Registration is available online at http://ce.byu.edu/cw/believing/register.cfm, by calling (801) 422-8925 or in person at 120 Harman Continuing Education Building. At-the-door registrations will be accepted on a space-available basis. Registration is limited, and no overflow will be offered, so participants are encouraged to register early.
