Curbs on the press will be BYU Global Focus Series topic Dec. 1

E. Markham Bench, major-market broadcast manager and former vice president and general manager of the award-winning New York FM radio station WRFM, will be the guest speaker at a Brigham Young University Global Focus Series lecture on Wednesday, Dec. 1 at noon in 238 Herald R. Clark Building.

Bench, executive director of the World Press Freedom Committee, will address "New Code Words for Censorship: Modern Labels for Curbs on the Press."

He has been actively involved with the WPFC since 1976, was a member of the board of directors of the International Association of Broadcasting , headquartered in Montevideo, Uruguay, for seventeen years and was IAB's first vice president for eight years.

He was also chair of media training in Central and Eastern Europe for the International Media Fund, and conducted media training seminars in that region for the International Research and Exchange Board and in Latin America for the State Department.
