Craig Jessop to lead BYU choirs in concert Feb. 28 at Provo Tabernacle

The combined audition choirs of Brigham Young University will join forces for a concert directed by Craig Jessop, head of the Music Department at Utah State University, Saturday, Feb. 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the Provo Tabernacle, 100 S. University Ave.

Tickets are $11, or $8 with BYU or student ID, and may be purchased online at www.byuarts.com, by phone at (801) 422-4322 or in person at the Harris Fine Arts Center Ticket Office. They may also be purchased at the door.

The concert will feature works by Bach and Brahms as well as by Utah’s own J.A.C. Redford. Morten Lauridsen’s “Ubi caritas” and “Sure on This Shining Night,” Richard Rodgers’ “ You’ll Never Walk Alone” and Martin Shaw’s “With a Voice of Singing” will also be featured.

A Utah State and BYU alumnus and the former music director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Jessop had a distinguished career as a lieutenant colonel with the United States Air Force, where he was director of the Singing Sergeants (1979-1987), commander/conductor of the Band of the United States Air Forces in Europe (1987-91) and commander/conductor of the Air Combat Command Heartland of America Band (1991-95).

He began his career in education as director of choral activities at Granite High School in Salt Lake City.
