Cougar Run 5K and kids' races during BYU homecoming

The BYU women's athletics support group known as the 12th team is presenting a Cougar Run 5K and kids' races Saturday, Oct. 16, during Homecoming as a benefit for female athletes. While a 5K race has been scheduled for many years during Homecoming week, it is now an official Homecoming activity; and in 2003, its first year, it attracted more than 400 runners.

The Cougar Run event features prizes, a drawing, food, and music at the BYU Track on the corner of Canyon Road and University Parkway. The 5K race will begin at the BYU track. Runners will travel east on University Parkway to 9th East, follow the Homecoming parade route and end back at the track. The 5K is for all ages, and the kids' races will include a 400m race for ages 1-4, an 800m race for ages 5-8 and a 1 mile race for kids 12 and under. Prizes will be awarded to the 5K top three men and women overall, to the first three male and female finishers in all age groups, in both the kids' races and the 5K, and ribbons will be given to all of the participants in the kids' races.

Participants can look forward to a drawing after the race, and all participants will receive a custom-designed T-shirt. Preregistration, up to Oct. 15, for the Kids' Races is $10 and $15 for the 5K. Registration on Oct. 16 is $15 for the Kids' Races and $20 for the 5K. For additional information, please visit www.byucougarrun.com.
