Cougar Queries: “Can you help me get my child admitted to BYU?”

Name: Jeffery Bunker

BYU employee since: 2006

My job at BYU is… Associate Executive Director, Student Academic and Advisement Services. I basically have the opportunity to help provide leadership to the administrative offices of Admissions, Financial Aid and Scholarships, Registrar, OneStop, and Communication and Technology. It’s great working behind the scenes to provide services that all students need.

A wonderful boss in the BYU Library sparked my interest in educational leadership… She encouraged me to pursue graduate school when, as a first-generation college student, I never thought of myself as “grad school” material.

When I tell people I work for BYU, they often say… “Can you help me get my child admitted [to BYU]?”

My advice to incoming freshman is… the same as my motto for life, “Work hard, play hard; love hard, pray hard.”

My most cherished memory at BYU was when… standing under a lamppost with my then girlfriend, I ran out of things to say! Because of that moment, she’s now my wife.

The title of my autobiography would be… Jeff Bunker’s Autobiography!

You’ll never find me without… my family. I’m very fortunate to be blessed with a family that love to be together. They costs me a fortune in food and fun, and that is why you’ll ALWAYS find me without cash in my wallet!

If I could travel anywhere, I would go to…. Heaven …because… I might not make it back again! But seriously, I’ve been extremely blessed to travel to many places in the world and if I could travel anywhere, I’d go back to Bora Bora in French Polynesia. I’ve been there once and once is not enough. I think it’s the most beautiful place on Earth.

My favorite quote is… “Inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments, ye shall prosper in the land.”

My favorite TV show growing up was… This is a toss-up between Mork and Mindy and Happy Days. Both shows were total silliness but who couldn’t love Mork and the Fonz?

My favorite hobby is… retreating to our small mountain cabin with my wife, Stephanie.

The biggest challenge I’ve faced was… trying to answer this particular question. I suppose my life has been full of challenges, but in each case, the challenge has also been a wonderful opportunity.
