Corporate Climb: Marriott School students host exercise fundraiser

Marriott School students, faculty and administrators are challenged to race the stairs for the BYU Annual Fund. The event will take place in the Tanner Building on Saturday, March 26, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

"Last year was a great success and we were able to raise a lot of money for a great cause," says James Clark, second-year MBA student and graduate student council president. "This year is looking to be even better than last year."

  • On your mark: Runners will climb the atrium stairs to the fourth floor move to the east stairwell and finish climbing to the seventh floor. They will then cross to the west stairwell and return to the first floor, creating a loop. Runners can choose to participate in seven- or three-lap races, either individually or in relay teams. Individual runners can also choose to participate in the 16-lap race, which is equivalent to running up and down the Empire State Building almost one and a half times.

  • Get set: Participants can run themselves or join a relay team. Individual runners are requested to give a $15 donation to the Annual Fund. Relay team members are asked to donate $10. Anyone can sponsor a runner for $5. All student contributions will be matched 5 to 1 by friends of the university. Faculty, alumni and administrator donations will be matched 1 to 1.

  • Go: Prizes will be awarded for fastest times, highest number of sponsors and best costumes. All participants receive a free t-shirt and refreshments. As a new feature for this year's race, participants can register or sponsor a runner online at marriottschool.byu.edu/corporateclimb/. BYU research: Mega wildfires can actually be a good thing

    November 04, 2025
BYU professor Sam St. Clair is the principal investigator on the first study to show positive impacts of megafires (fires greater than 100,000 acres) across different forest types. Megafires can help some forest communities thrive — especially in areas where chronic browsing by elk, deer, and livestock has hindered tree regeneration, a widespread issue that often leads to forest regeneration failure.
