Conductor Alexander Jiménez joins BYU Philharmonic for Nov. 19 concert

Brigham Young University’s Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing Thursday, Nov. 19, in the de Jong Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m. Conductor Kory Katseanes and the orchestra will be joined by guest conductor Alexander Jiménez.

The ensemble with Katseanes conducting will first perform “Rainorama” by Aldwyn Roberts with BYU’s percussion ensemble Panoramic Steel. They will then present “Dance of the Seven Veils” by Richard Strauss. Jiménez will conduct the orchestra in the final number, the Symphony No. 5 by Tchaikovsky.

Jiménez is an associate professor of conducting and is director of orchestras and coordinator of strings at the College of Music at Florida State University. Jiménez serves as president-elect of the College Orchestra Directors Association where he has been a member since 2002.

He holds memberships in the National Association for Music Education, the Florida Orchestra Association and the Conductors Guild. Jiménez has earned degrees from Baylor University and Florida State University.
