Church history professor to present BYU devotional address June 29

Brigham Young University professor of Church history Richard E. Bennett will be the campus devotional speaker Tuesday, June 29, at 11:05 a.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

The devotional will be broadcast live on the BYU Broadcasting channels and online at byub.org. Rebroadcast and archive information will be available at byub.org/devotionals or speeches.byu.edu.

Bennett teaches courses at BYU on the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Doctrine and Covenants. He is an expert in 19th-century Mormon history, Mormon exodus history and Mormon manuscripts. He also conducts research at BYU regarding the Mormon exodus, temple work and the 1820s and the beginning of Mormonism.

He received his Ph.D. in intellectual history from Wayne State University. Before coming to BYU he was the head of Special Collections at the University of Manitoba. He is the author of several books and articles dealing with 19th-century LDS history.

Bennett is the Church history editor for BYU Studies and had been a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Book of Mormon Studies.
