Christian Asplund to present recital of original works Jan. 24

Brigham Young University music professor Christian Asplund will present some of his compositions in a faculty artist recital titled “Two Song Cycles” on Thursday, Jan. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall. Admission is free.

Asplund composed all the music for the recital, which will include “Rain,” “A Rhythmic Falling,” “Solitude” and “Fenestra” from “Rain” (2004, rev. 2007), as well as “Coming of Train,” “My Private Body,” “A Poem About Sick Trees and Mold,” Freak of Nature” and “Your Hand” from “My Private Body” (2001). The texts for these pieces were written by Lara Candland.

Asplund’s compositions will be performed by Jennifer Babidge, soprano; Diane Reich, soprano; Daniel Bailey, clarinet; Claudine Bigelow, viola; Larry Green, guitar; Kristen Grimshaw, piano; Jaren Hinckley, clarinet; and Scott Holden, piano.
