“Chris is well prepared to step into this role,” said Scharman. “He has been an outstanding officer during his 22 years with the BYU Police Department. He has a broad set of skills and experience, and he is well qualified to take on this new assignment.”

In making this announcement, Scharman expressed her appreciation for Stott’s years of service to the university.

“I had the opportunity to work with Larry Stott for most of his 19 years as BYU’s police chief,” Scharman said. “I value the many contributions he made while here at BYU.”

In previous assignments, Autry has served as the liaison between the BYU Police Department and numerous campus entities. He served on BYU’s Administrative Advisory Council and continues to serve as one of BYU’s deputy Title IX coordinators.

Autry earned his bachelor’s degree and master ‘s of public administration from BYU. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy.

“Chris is not only well respected by his fellow officers but by our campus community as well,” said Scharman.  “He is known for fostering an environment of collaboration and unity.”
