Chinese foreign policy expert to speak at BYU Aug. 1

Brigham Young University will host a special guest speaker from China for an Area Focus Lecture Monday, Aug. 1, at noon in 252 Thomas L. Martin Building.

Zhang Qingmin, associate professor and associate chair of the Department of Diplomacy at the China Foreign Affairs College in Beijing, will discuss “Current Sino-Japanese Relations: Causes and Consequences.”

Zhang is widely recognized for his expertise on foreign policy analysis. His research interests include China’s foreign policy, U.S. foreign policy and U.S.-People’s Republic of China-Taiwan relations.

He was a Fulbright Scholar at the Sigur Center for Asian Studies at George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs, where he conducted research on globalization and U.S. arms sales policy to Taiwan.

He received a master’s degree in international and area studies from the David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies at BYU and a doctoral degree from China Foreign Affairs College in Beijing.
