Celtic violinist Natalie MacMaster to perform at BYU March 19

Joined in performance by BYU Folk Music Ensemble

The Brigham Young University Performing Arts Series welcomes famed Celtic violinist Natalie MacMaster to the de Jong Concert Hall Tuesday, March 19, at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets range from $20 to $35, with $3 discounts available to alumni and senior citizens, and $7 discounts for BYU students or individuals with a BYU ID. They are available for purchase through the Fine Arts Ticket Office, (801) 422-4322, or at byuarts.com/tickets.

The program will feature traditional and contemporary Celtic melodies from MacMaster’s extensive repertoire. The BYU Folk Music Ensemble will open the show with a set of rousing Celtic tunes and folk songs. The group features banjo, guitar, mandolin and fiddle solos, playing musical favorites from the 19th and 20th centuries.

MacMaster is known as a virtuoso fiddler across the world, playing in such prestigious venues as Carnegie Hall and Massey Hall. She currently has 11 studio albums, most of which have reached gold status (50,000 records sold). She is a member of the Order of Canada and a Juno award winner. She has received an honorary doctorate from St. Thomas University as well as honorary degrees from Niagara University and Trent University.

In addition to her marriage to fellow fiddler Donnell Leahy and being mother to four children, MacMaster performs an average of 100 dates a year and co-hosts the annual Leahy Music Camp with her husband in Lakefield, Ontario, Canada. Additionally, she has collaborated with Alison Krauss, Thomas Dolby, Ma, The Chieftains and others on their albums.
