CANCELED: Jeffrey Shumway plans BYU faculty piano recital Nov. 10

Jeffrey Shumway, a member of the keyboard faculty at Brigham Young University’s School of Music, will be performing Tuesday, Nov. 10, in the Madsen Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. The concert is free.

He will be performing a number of piano pieces, including the Sonata in G major by Ludwig van Beethoven and the Suite “Bergamasque” by Claude Debussy as well as several Rachmaninoff preludes. He will also be performing his own arrangement of Debussy’s “Clair de Lune,” with the help of guest performers Tara Ellingford, Maria Heward and Stephanie Talbot.

Shumway received his bachelor’s degree in music in 1976 from BYU, receiving most outstanding pianist and most outstanding musician honors. Further studies included a master’s degree in music from The Juilliard School of Music. He later received a doctorate in music with high honors from Indiana University in 1981. He was also the second-prize winner of the 1977 Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition.

Innovative group of BYU students roll out new AI tech to solve parking problems

And their idea, an AI detection and tracking system called Spot Parking (more on that in a minute), just got a major endorsement and $12,000 in cash by winning the 2024 BYU Student Innovator of the Year (SIOY) competition.
