Call for papers issued for 2008 Sperry Symposium at BYU

Organizers of Brigham Young University’s 2008 Sidney B. Sperry Symposium have issued a call for proposals to be considered for presentation at next year’s event.

Submissions should examine the cultural, doctrinal and ecclesiastical aspects of the revelations in the Doctrine and Covenants and how they have influenced individuals or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in general.

Proposals should be in the form of a one-page essay, with content outlining the central question the writer wishes to address, the thesis of the idea, a brief sketch of sources the writer plans to use and any special experience or training that could enrich the work. Submissions must be turned in electronically to Patty Smith at patty_smith@byu.edu before April 23, 2007.

Submitters will be notified of their proposal’s status by June 1, 2007, and those accepted must turn in final papers by Oct. 1, 2007.

For more information, including a list of possible research questions to address, contact Patty Smith at (801) 422-3611.
