BYU’s vocal jazz ensemble presents a concert of lively, joyful music Nov. 16

The BYU School of Music presents Jazz Voices in concert Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 7:30 p.m., in the Madsen Recital Hall of the Harris Fine Arts Center.

Tickets are $6 and can be purchased in person at the BYU Ticket Office in the Harris Fine Arts Center or Marriott Center, by phone at 801-422- 2981 or online at byuarts.com.

Jazz Voices is an ensemble of eleven vocalists and a four-piece rhythm section, directed by Emily Merrell. The ensemble provides a transformative experience for listeners as they explore traditional and modern jazz repertoire.

“BYU Jazz Voices is a breath of fresh air to audiences of all kinds,” said director Emily Merrell. “This outstanding ensemble is known for its complex harmonies, tight grooves, improvisation and unique combination of vocalists and instrumentalists; there is something here for everyone!”

The audience can expect to hear a wide variety of jazz sub-genres including blues, swing, bebop, Latin, funk, and fusion—all delivered with the honest and evocative story-telling and lyric interpretation essential to the vocal jazz tradition.
