BYU's Thomas Griffith confirmed as U.S. Court of Appeals judge

Thomas B. Griffith, general counsel for Brigham Young University, was confirmed Tuesday by the U.S. Senate as the newest judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

"As a university, we are very pleased with the Senate's confirmation," BYU President Cecil O. Samuelson said of Griffith's appointment to the court, generally accepted as the second most influential court in the nation.

"During my tenure at BYU, I have worked closely with Tom as he has provided outstanding service to the university. I echo others in praising Tom for his skill, integrity, wisdom, character and broad experience. Although we will certainly miss him, he is eminently qualified to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals and will do a fine job."

President George W. Bush nominated Griffith for the position in June, 2004.

Said Griffith, "I am honored that President Bush nominated me and now that the Senate, an institution I love and admire and served for a number of years, has confirmed me. I look forward to serving the nation in this new responsibility."
