BYU's Redd Center to screen PBS documentary "A Class Apart" Feb. 19

Brigham Young University Charles Redd Center for Western Studies will host a special advance screening of “A Class Apart,” a one-hour film produced by Carlos Sandoval and Peter Miller from PBS’s American Experience series, Thursday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m. in the Harold B. Lee Library Auditorium.

Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

“A Class Apart” is a documentary based on BYU professor Ignacio Garcia’s recently released book, “White But Not Equal: Mexican American, Jury Discrimination and the Supreme Court.”

The Redd Center and Garcia arranged for the exclusive screening as a gift to the BYU community for university’s support in the research used in the book and documentary. Garcia will discuss the film and answer questions following the screening.

The documentary tells the story of the Hernandez v. Texas civil rights case. From a small-town murder emerged a Supreme Court civil rights case that successfully challenged Jim Crow-style discrimination against Mexican Americans.
