With guest pianist Valerie Capers

Q’d Up, Brigham Young University’s faculty jazz quintet, with special guest jazz pianist Valerie Capers, will perform Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Tahitian Noni International Auditorium located at 300 West 5200 North in Provo.

Admission is free and the public is welcome.

This dynamic group will feature original jazz pieces written by group members Steve Lindeman and Jay Lawrence.

Q’d Up will be performing “Perilous Passage,” “Dayley Dash” and “Yorubaland,” composed by Q’d Up percussionist Lawrence. They will also perform “Take a Break Jake” by keyboardist Lindeman, as well as “Amazon Rhapsody” by both Lawrence and Lindeman.

Accompanied by bass player, John Robinson, Capers will perform “Winter’s Love” adapted from “Winterstrüme wichen dem Wonnem” and “Du bist der Lenz” from Act I of Wagner's “Die Walküre.” She will also perform “Wagner Takes the ‘A’ Train” by Wagner and Strayhorn, arranged by Capers, and her own “Odyssey.”

The group is composed of Ray Smith, who plays flute, clarinet, Yamaha WX7 wind controller and soprano, alto and tenor saxophones; Ron Brough who plays drums, steel pan, timbales and auxiliary percussion; Lars Yorgason who plays bass; Lindeman and Lawrence.
