BYU's popular OcTUBAfest to run Oct. 17-19

Brigham Young University’s School of Music presents its annual OcTUBAfest Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 17-19, in the Madsen Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. with unique nightly performances. All concerts are free.

Thursday, Oct. 17, will feature a  recital by guest artist Brian Bowman, euphonium, with BYU faculty artist Robin Hancock, piano. Some of his numbers will include the Andante and Rondo by Antonio Capuzzi, “The Holy Well” by Peter Graham and Fantasia di Concerto by Eduoard Boccalari.

Bowman, coordinator of brass at the University of North Texas, enjoys a distinguished career as a soloist, clinician, recording artist, educator and administrator. He also had the honor of being the first euphoniumist to perform in Carnegie Recital Hall, serving as president of the International Tuba and Euphonium Association and performing a concert tour in Japan.

Friday, Oct. 18, will feature Utah Premiere Brass with Bowman and will be conducted by BYU professor Kirt Saville. Utah Premiere Brass is the only known British brass band in the state. They have 30 professional brass musicians who come from all areas of Utah and beyond. The group will perform a number of popular pieces including “Them Basses” by Getty H. Huffine.

OcTUBAfest will conclude on Saturday, Oct. 19, with the Grand OcTUBAfest Concert featuring Bowman, BYU professor Steve Call, Bob Bailey and the Festival Tuba-Euphonium Ensembles I and II.
