BYU's Kennedy Center observes International Education Week

In observance of International Education Week Nov. 18-22, the David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies at Brigham Young University will be hosting a week-long promotion of international education.

A few highlights include lectures on regional areas of the globe, a two-day debate on the issue of war with Iraq and an international career day. A cultural showcase on Friday evening will close the festivities.

International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.

"During the past year, it has become very clear that broadening our international understanding is critical," says U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige, who, along with Secretary of State Colin Powell, organized the event. "This will mean renewed efforts to encourage the study of foreign languages and cultures, and to provide opportunities for all students to broaden their knowledge of the world."

The BYU International Education Week events are free, and the public is invited to attend. Watch for full details on the Kennedy Center's News page and on-line calendar at .
