The Jazz Legacy Dixieland Band and the Hot Club, a new extension of the band, will perform some of jazz and swing's favorite songs Friday and Saturday, Oct. 15-16, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.
Tickets are $9 and $3 off with student ID. Tickets are available through the Fine Arts Ticket Office at (801) 378-4322 or at www.byu.edu/hfac.
The Hot Club is a new addition to the band. The Hot Club was formed after the famous Hot Club of France founded by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelly. They were the first two non-American jazz artists.
The three students who will play in the Hot Club are well versed in the music of the original Hot Club of France, said Steve Call, director of the Jazz Legacy Dixieland Band.
The students playing in the Hot Club are Stuart Maxfield, violin; Jesse Crosby, guitar; and Kristen Bromley, guitar.
Also featured in the program will be trumpeter Daniel Henderson. He will play some popular Louis Armstrong pieces including "Struttin' With Some Barbeque."
Founded by director Steve Call, the Jazz Legacy Dixieland Band has performed throughout the United States and in Japan. They were selected for four International Jazz Education Conferences as the featured performing group.
Band members include Steve Call, director; George Bailey, clarinet; Chad Ostermiller, tenor saxophone and clarinet; Daniel Henderson, trumpet; Bryce Robbins, trombone; Stuart Maxfield, violin and tenor banjo; Jesse Crosby, guitar and tenor banjo; Kristen Bromley, guitar and banjo; Brian Hall, piano; Joe Jensen, tuba; and Matt Nielsen, drums.
