BYU's Jazz Ensemble presents concert Dec. 8

The Brigham Young University School of Music presents the Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Mark Ammons in concert Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.

Admission is free and open to the public.

The Jazz Ensemble will play a variety of popular pieces including "I Got Rhythm" by George Gershwin, "The Umpire Strikes Back" by Matt Catingub and "In a Sentimental Mood" by Duke Ellington.

Courtney and the Guys Combo will also perform during the concert. Members of this jazz group include Courtney Hohl, Brandon Farmer, David Kjar, Jared Morris, Chris Nuttal, Zach Van Wagoner and Jared Collette.

The Jazz Ensemble helps train up-and-coming jazz musicians, said Ammons. "The ensemble provides the necessary training to help serious jazz performers to enhance their talent."

BYU’s world-class pipe organ is the ‘crown jewel’ of the new Concert Hall

If you haven’t experienced the pipe organ in the BYU Music Building yet, you’re in for a treat. With 4,613 pipes and 81 ranks (sets of pipes), it’s the third largest organ in Utah and the only one with two consoles. Organists can play from a console located in the center of the pipework facade or from a movable stage console.
