BYU's Dale Pratt named vice president of Hispanic honor society

Dale Pratt of Brigham Young University’s Department of Spanish and Portuguese was recently elected regional vice president of Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society.

Pratt’s tenure as regional vice president will begin Aug. 4 and will continue through 2010. His jurisdiction will include 11 states, where he will oversee the recruitment of new chapters while simultaneously reactivating dormant ones. He will also counsel regional chapter advisers on various society-related issues and will serve as a voting member of Sigma Delta Pi’s National Executive Council.

Pratt’s prior work in Sigma Delta Pi includes serving as BYU’s chapter adviser since 1995, as the Utah state director from 1998 to 2001 and as chair of the society’s National Scholarship Committee since 2002.

Sigma Delta Pi was established in 1919 and has 546 chapters nationwide. The society honors students who have completed at least three years of study of college-level Spanish and who rank in the top 35 percent of their class.
