BYU's Cougarettes in showcase performance March 12-15

Brigham Young University's award-winning precision dance team, the Cougarettes, will showcase a variety of styles during Cougarettes in Concert 2003 in the Dance Studio Theatre, 166 Richards Building, Wednesday through Saturday, March 12-15, at 7:30 p.m.

A matinee will be performed Saturday at 2 p.m. Tickets at $8 can be purchased at the door or by contacting the Fine Arts Ticket Office at (801) 378-4322 or at www.byu.edu/hfac.

Artistic director Jodi Maxfield and current Cougarette members will present a variety of dance styles ranging from lyrical and stylized jazz to character and funk.

"The concert is an opportunity for the Cougarettes to demonstrate their versatility and the technical excellence that has been the foundation of their success," said Maxfield.

Featured pieces for Cougarettes in Concert 2003 include a duet, "Untouchable," performed by Stacy Johnson with Joseph del Priore, and "Bolero," choreographed by Morgan Smith, featuring the Cougarettes en pointe.

The Cougarettes will also perform an early version of their competition piece, "Ojos Negros," a fast-paced, powerful and very technical Latin-Spanish number in preparation for competition in the National Cheerleading Association Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla., this April.
