BYU's Ballet Showcase Company schedules performances Nov. 12-13

Brigham Young University's Ballet Showcase Company presents a new and exciting repertoire of classical and contemporary choreography featuring two student choreographies in a performance Friday and Saturday, Nov. 12-13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Dance Studio Theatre, 166 Richards Building.

Tickets are $5 and available at the Fine Arts Ticket Office at (801) 378-4322 and at the door.

Rob Cox will present "Lost," a piece he choreographed and composed for his senior project. The piece is a three movement abstract exploring the mind of a ballet dancer.

The second student piece, "Broken and Contrite" by Brigette Petersen, is based on a scripture in The Book of Mormon, 3 Nephi 9:20. The choreography is set to the music from Alan Silvestri and "The Secret Garden."

"The choreographic work is my journey to come to Christ," Petersen said.

Two pieces choreographed by artistic director Shani Robison include an old contemporary favorite, "Adagio," and a new piece, "Classical Impressions," demonstrating the company's strength and artistry, choreographed to the music by Haydn.

Other pieces the Ballet Showcase Company will perform include a contemporary ballet, "Masquerade," choreographed by faculty member Marsha Russell, and "Capitol Suite" by faculty member Suzi Wood.

For more information contact Shani Robison at (801) 422-4748.
