BYU's annual "Walk of Life" Jan. 19 celebrates legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

A candlelight walk and memorial program will celebrate the life and dreams of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the annual "Walk of Life" Monday, Jan. 19, at 6 p.m. on the Brigham Young University campus.

The celebration, sponsored by BYU Multicultural Student Services and the Black Student Union, is free and open to the public.

The candlelight walk will begin at the Carillon Bell Tower and lead to the Wilkinson Student Center Terrace, where activities will include performances by musical groups MILK, One Voice and the Black Student Union Choir as well as a recitation of Dr. King's famous "I Have A Dream" speech. Juan Henderson from BYU Religious Education will be the keynote speaker.

"This day is a wonderful opportunity to promote the efforts of peace and unity in our communities and to teach one another about a great American leader in United States history," said Tiffany Morgan, student program coordinator with the Multicultural Student Services.

The "Walk of Life" will follow a day of service activities throughout the community sponsored by the BYU Center for Service and Learning.
