"Byugle" gives BYU community access to educational video from any campus network

With the increasing use of multimedia in the classroom, the Harold B. Lee Library Multimedia Production Unit has created Byugle (pronounced bugle), a new online service giving faculty and students universal access to educational video content from any campus network.

Byugle can be accessed at byugle.lib.byu.edu on any wired or wireless campus network, allowing faculty to show video content in the classroom. Students can also view assigned content anywhere on campus at any time, saving them a trip to the Learning Resource Center or other assigned viewing location.

Byugle is not accessible from off-campus networks.

Videos can be set up ahead of time to play only the clip needed by the professor, and a specific link can be used to access this clip. Students and faculty alike can also bookmark videos and create their own playlists. Additionally, unlike other online media players, Byugle has full-screen video capability.

Faculty members who want to add content to Byugle can take the media to the production unit on the sixth floor of the Harold B. Lee Library along with a completed information form that faculty can obtain by sending an e-mail to hbllproductionunit@byu.edu. In the future, faculty will be able to submit content via an online form.

For additional information, contact HBLL Multimedia Production Unit manager Mike Hill at (801) 422-1564 or mike_hill@byu.edu.
