BYU Young Ambassadors bring "Harmony: The Music of Life" March 17-19

Brigham Young University’s energetic Young Ambassadors will be performing “Harmony: The Music of Life” at the de Jong Concert Hall Thursday through Saturday, March 17-19, at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee performance Saturday, March 19, at 2 p.m. Tickets cost from $6 to $10 and are available at byuarts.com/tickets or (801) 422-4322.

The Young Ambassadors’ repertoire consists of contemporary music and dance in a fast-paced showcase of American musical theater that has been performed in front of kings, queens, prime ministers and other citizens in countries around the globe.

“Harmony,” an all-new show for 2011, is a stage production celebrating favorites from some of America’s best-loved musical scores like “Carousel,” “Dream Girls,” “Wicked” and “The Prince of Egypt.” The show also highlights hits from artists like Benny Goodman, Michael Bublé and Billy Joel.

The concert includes a 10-piece band playing with a performing cast of 20 singer-dancers. The group is also supported by a crew of student technicians who control lighting and sound and provide backstage support.

The world-traveled Young Ambassadors have performed extensively in more than 13 states and 14 countries, including Australia, China, Korea, Brazil and Argentina. Their performances cross cultural bounds and are always enthusiastically received.

Gregory J. Newell, former U.S. assistant secretary of state, said, “As unofficial ambassadors for the United States, the Young Ambassadors are without peer.”

In 2002 the Young Ambassadors also performed during the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and took their production to Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and Alberta, receiving outstanding reviews.

The Young Ambassadors are part of the School of Music, with choreography support provided by the Department of Dance.
