BYU Worldfest Nov. 18-22 highlights world cultures

Brigham Young University's Worldfest 2003 kicked off its weeklong celebration of international cultures at noon Tuesday in the Garden Court of the Wilkinson Student Center.

Events for the week include noon shows featuring music and dance from other countries by student performers Tuesday through Friday in the Garden Court.

Culture booths featuring information, music and traditions of 30 countries will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday in the Garden Court.

On Thursday, a fashion show and international banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the WSC Ballroom and will feature traditional ethnic attire from various countries. Tickets at $12 and two for $20 are available at the WSC Ticket Office (2300 WSC), the WSC Information Booth on the main level and at International Services (1351 WSC).

An international foodfest will be held Friday at 6 p.m. in the Garden Court. Food, drinks and desserts from many parts of the world will be featured. Coupons purchased at the door may be exchanged for food at various booths.

Also on Friday will be an International Showcase featuring student dancers and musicians, followed by a Latin Dance at 9 p.m. in the WSC Ballroom. Tickets are $5 with $2 off with a BYU ID.

Worldfest will also include a soccer tournament, with the championship game on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Smith Fieldhouse.
