The BYU School of Music and BYU Wind Symphony presents Reel Music: A Night at the Movies Friday, Oct. 28, at 7:30 p.m., in the de Jong Concert Hall of the Harris Fine Arts Center.

The BYU Wind Symphony concert features music from the silver screen such as Silverado and Star Wars as well as masterworks like Bach’s Toccata in D Minor that have found their place in the theatre. Film composer and BYU Bands alumnus, Merrill Jenson, will also conduct the band in a medley from his scores.
“The role of music in motion pictures is huge and the Wind Symphony program pays tribute to that relationship,” said Donald Peterson, conductor. “The entire program is either music written specifically for movies or compositions that been borrowed from classical repertoire to the extent that they are even more well know because of their use on the big screen.”
The music will range from the opening strains used in “2001: A Space Odyssey,” Bruce Broughton’s famous score to “Silverado,” music as well as music from “Fantasia,” “Harry Potter,” and “Star Wars.”
