BYU Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band in concert April 2

The Brigham Young University Wind Symphony conducted by Donald Peterson and Symphonic Band conducted by Kirt Saville will join forces for a performance Wednesday, April 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center.

Tickets are $11 or $8 with a BYU or student ID, and can be purchased at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, by calling (801) 422-7664 or by visiting www.byuarts.com.

The Symphonic Band will feature “Give Us This Day” by contemporary composer David Maslanka, as well as “Pacific Fanfare” by Frank Ticheli, “Country Gardens” by Percy Grainger and “Florentiner March” by Juius Fucik.

The Wind Symphony will perform “The Swiss Shepherd” by Francesco Pietro Morlacchi featuring flute soloist Stephanie Layton, and Mendelssohn’s Concertpiece No. 2 with clarinetists Justin Laukat and Tara Hill. The ensemble will also present Leroy Anderson’s popular “Bugler’s Holiday,” “The Trombone Rag” by John Higgens and “Jerome Robbins’ Broadway” arranged by Warren Barker.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
