BYU will host 83rd annual Campus Education Week Aug. 15-19

This year's theme is "The Prophet Joseph Smith"

Brigham Young University will host the 83rd annual Campus Education Week Aug. 15-19 at locations throughout the BYU campus.

The theme for the week is “The Prophet Joseph Smith: ‘Whom I Did Call Upon to Bring Forth My Work.’”

The program will feature more than 200 faculty who will present more than 1,000 classes on the Standard Works of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, gospel principles, family and marriage relations, education, finance, self-improvement and scores of other topics, as well as classes for youth.

Bishop Richard C. Edgley, first counselor in the Presiding Bishopric of the Church of Jesus Christ, will be the general session devotional speaker Tuesday, Aug. 16, at 11:10 a.m. in the Marriott Center.

The devotional is open to students and the public, and will be broadcast live on the KBYU networks.

In addition to the classes, three performances will be held in the Harris Fine Arts Center on the evenings of Aug. 16-19. New this year is the opportunity to purchase performance tickets in advance, beginning July 11, at educationweek.byu.edu.

The performances will include “Parley P. Pratt’s Great Escape,” “The Shadow Mountain Music Showcase” featuring six well-known Latter-day Saint artists, and a performance by violinist Jenny Oaks Baker.

For a schedule of classes, events, broadcast and registration information, visit educationweek.byu.edu or call (801) 422-2087.

A youth dance for registered Education Week students will also be held at the south end of LaVell Edwards Stadium Thursday, Aug. 18, from 8-11 p.m. The dance entrance fee is $3.

To extend the educational resources of BYU and the Church Educational System, 12 presentations will be broadcast over the Church satellite system and BYU Television to the United States and Canada Sept. 13-16.

Presentations will also be broadcast over Church satellite to Europe, South Africa, Asia, the South Pacific, the Pacific and parts of Alaska Sept. 10 and 17.

In addition, the broadcasts will be carried on KBYU-TV and BYU Radio and will be audio- and video-streamed at kbyu.org.

Education Week organizers are seeking volunteers to host during the week. Duties would include checking tickets, taking attendance counts, assisting faculty and helping with other program details. Volunteers receive a pass that allows them to attend classes when they are not serving as hosts.

Volunteers must be 18 or older and should be able to serve about 14 hours Aug. 15-19. Flexible shift times are available. Interested persons can call (801) 422-8012.
