BYU "Walk of Life" to honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day Jan. 21

Multicultural Services at Brigham Young University is honoring the life and mission of Martin Luther King Jr. and the 50th anniversary of the “The Great March on Washington” with its annual "Walk of Life" candlelight walk and memorial program Monday, Jan. 21.

A processional from 5:30 to 6 p.m. will begin at the Carillon Bell Tower, followed by a memorial program in the Wilkinson Student Center Ballroom with keynote speaker Cathy Stokes from 6 to 7 p.m. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend.

That morning, the Y Serve organization at BYU will host its annual Community Outreach Day starting at 9 a.m. in the Wilkinson Student Center. Both BYU students and community members are invited to participate in various projects as part of the national Day of Service held on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The Walk of Life program is sponsored by Multicultural Student Services. It will be the first of series of on-campus events honoring Black History Month, which will include the screening of “Boycott” and “Miss Ever’s Boys” at BYU’s International Cinema, a symposium titled "Evolution of Black Song and Dance,” an exhibit on Black Mormon pioneers in the Education in Zion gallery and other events.
