“Live Morning and Afternoon News on Classical 89”
Four Brigham Young University students took home the Society of Professional Journalists’ national Mark of Excellence Award for the best overall student radio newscast.
Jennifer Borget, Kimberly Christenson, Britney Homan and Marco Villarreal received the award for their work on “Live Morning and Afternoon News on Classical 89.” Borget, Homan and Villarael are all broadcast journalism students, and Christenson is studying English.
The awards are given annually by the society to honor the nation’s best in student journalism. They cover 39 categories, including print, radio, television and online journalism.
Classical 89, also known as KBYU-FM, broadcasts classical music, coverage of local arts events, news from the BBC World Service, KBYU-FM morning and afternoon news and several hours of BYU programs each week that include campus devotionals and forums as well as Education Week and BYU Women's Conference addresses.
It can be heard at 89.1 FM in Salt Lake County and at 89.5 FM in Utah County.
