Brigham Young University vocal performance student Rachel Willis-Sorensen, soprano, won first place in the Rocky Mountain Regional Finals of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in Denver on Jan. 19.
Willis-Sorensen competed against eight other singers to win the regional title, and will compete with winners from the 14 other regions at the National Semi-Finals in New York on Feb. 17. Approximately 10 of these singers will be selected as National Finalists and will compete in the National Grand Finals Concert on Feb. 24.
Many of the world’s foremost singers have received awards from the National Council and more than 100 alumni of the National Council Auditions sing in Met performances during a typical opera season.
