BYU student vocalists, following study in Vienna, to give recital Sept. 11

After performing and studying during winter semester in Vienna, nine students from Brigham Young University will be participating in a free recital at the Madsen Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11.

The students will perform art songs and opera scenes that they performed while in Europe, including works by Brahms, Shubert and Mozart. They will be under the direction of Lawrence P. Vincent of BYU’s School of Music.

The students were enrolled in vocal instruction, fine arts, German literature and diction and opera. They studied with Vincent and his wife, Jeannie, while also taking classes at the Austro-American Institute of Education.

Vincent has performed solo engagements with the Vienna State Opera and Vienna Volks Opera. He was awarded Austrian citizenship in 1994 for “extraordinary achievement in the arts.” Vincent has crossed the globe performing in many countries, including Israel, Japan, Germany and Luxembourg.

While in Vienna, the students and faculty performed in churches and missionary conferences for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as well as care centers and outreach centers.

For more information, contact Lawrence Vincent at (801) 422-3165.
