BYU student nurses to celebrate National Nurses Week May 6-8

Brigham Young University student nurses will honor the dedication, commitment and tireless efforts of the nearly three million registered nurses nationwide as they celebrate National Nurses Week with a free blood pressure screening clinic Tuesday through Thursday, May 6-8.

On Tuesday, student nurses will conduct screenings from 10 a.m. until noon in the main entrance of the Spencer W. Kimball Tower and from noon until 3:30 p.m. in both the Wilkinson Student Center Terrace and the Nursing Learning Center on the first floor of the SWKT.

On Wednesday and Thursday, students will perform screenings from 10 a.m. until noon in the SWKT main entrance and from 1 until 3 p.m. in the WSC Terrace.

National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6 and ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession. "Nurses: Making a Difference Every Day" is the theme for this year’s celebration.

During spring term 2008, more than 150 BYU nursing students will continue to make a difference every day as they receive clinical training and provide community nursing among diverse, rural populations in places like Arizona, Australia, Ecuador, Hawaii and Wendover, Utah.

For more information, contact Rose Ann Jarrett, public relations supervisor for the College of Nursing, at (801) 422-4143.
