BYU student engineers tops at national Traffic Bowl competition

Brigham Young University engineering students recently placed first at the 2nd Annual ITE Collegiate Traffic Bowl Grand Championship during the 2011 Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Annual Meeting Exhibit in St. Louis, Missouri.

Following the final competition featuring nine teams from universities throughout the United States and Canada, BYU’s engineering team received $2,000 as well as a travel grant and complimentary student registrations to participate in the International Annual Meeting in St. Louis.

Founded in 1930, ITE is a community of transportation professionals including transportation engineers, transportation planners, consultants, educators and researchers.

The ITE Collegiate Traffic Bowl is a competition amongst ITE student chapters with transportation planning and engineering topics for the clues, questions and answers. Students in transportation engineering and planning from across North America competed

The objectives of the ITE Collegiate Traffic Bowl are to encourage students to become more active members in ITE, to enhance their knowledge of the traffic/transportation engineering and planning profession and to strengthen the programs of the IT student chapters.

The Collegiate Traffic Bowl Program featured the participation of student teams from 58 universities in the United States and Canada. The teams competed in section- and district-level events for a chance to compete as one of nine finalists in the Grand Championship.

The objectives of the ITE Collegiate Traffic Bowl are to encourage students to become more active members in ITE, to enhance their knowledge of the traffic/transportation engineering and planning profession and to strengthen the programs of the IT student chapters.
