BYU student engineers lead project to design global race car

Brigham Young University mechanical engineering professor C. Greg Jensen and his students recently returned from Germany, where they presented their global race car at the annual PACE faculty forum.

PACE, the industry coalition that includes General Motors and supports computer-aided engineering, selected the BYU team to lead a group of engineering students from around the world in designing and assembling a Formula One race car.

BYU was chosen for its engineering expertise and for its diverse language skills, which allowed team members to communicate just as well with collaborators in Korea as with those in Canada.

BYU research: Mega wildfires can actually be a good thing

BYU professor Sam St. Clair is the principal investigator on the first study to show positive impacts of megafires (fires greater than 100,000 acres) across different forest types. Megafires can help some forest communities thrive — especially in areas where chronic browsing by elk, deer, and livestock has hindered tree regeneration, a widespread issue that often leads to forest regeneration failure.
