BYU Spring Jazz Ensemble plans June 12 concert

Brigham Young University's School of Music will present the Spring Jazz Ensemble in concert Tuesday, June 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center.

Admission to the concert is free, and the public is welcome to attend.

The ensemble is directed by Ray Smith and will perform a number of Big Band favorites. “This is some great music,” Smith said. “I think everyone will find it enjoyable.”

The performance will begin with “Basie Straight Ahead” and “Freckle Face” by Sammy Nestico, and will then move into “Take the A Train” and “In a Mellow Tone” by Duke Ellington.

The audience will then hear “The Greasy Toaster Blues” and “Chocolate Covered Cherries” by BYU band member Ben Taylor.

The ensemble will end the evening with “Mueva Los Huesos” by Gordon Goodwin, “Talk” by Pat Metheny and “Brazilian Affair” by Bob Mintzer.
