BYU Singers to give free pre-tour concert April 25

Come wish the Brigham Young University Singers “bon voyage” at a free pre-tour concert Monday, April 25, at 5:15 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall. The ensemble will leave the next day for a concert tour of Colorado and Wyoming.

Directed by Ronald Staheli, the program will focus on warm, light-hearted pieces, including a pair of songs called “Two Folksy Girls” that consists of upbeat arrangements of “Jinny Git Around” and “Someone’s in the Kitchen with Dinah.”

The ensemble will also sing “Faith, Hope, and Charity,” which includes a jazzy setting of the phrase “you will reap what you sow,” a song titled “If I Can Help Somebody,” a choral version of “This Is One of Those Moments” and a new arrangement of the hymn “If There’s Sunshine in Your Heart.”

The ensemble is a small, select choir of flexible singer-musicians that has attained the reputation of a captivating, versatile choir with an impressive range of repertoire and style.

As one of the major touring ensembles of the university, the Singers have traveled throughout the United States (including Hawaii), twice to Russia and three times to Israel, and have also toured Australia, New Zealand, Western and Eastern Europe (including the Baltic States), West Africa and South Africa.

The choir toured the British Isles in May 2009, placing second in the Fleischmann International Trophy Competition at the Cork International Choral Festival.

For more information about the concert, contact Ronald Staheli at (801) 422-3169 or rjs3@byu.edu. Learn more about the BYU Singers at singers.byu.edu.
