BYU Singers, Concert Choir plan joint performances March 16-17

The Brigham Young University Singers and Concert Choir, under the direction of Ronald J. Staheli and Rosalind Hall, will present a blend some of BYU’s best voices on Friday and Saturday, March 16-17, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall in the Harris Fine Arts Center.

Tickets are $9 or $3 with a BYU or student ID. Tickets can be purchased at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, by calling (801) 422-7664 or by visiting performances.byu.edu.

The program will begin with a number titled “Musick’s Empire,” conducted by Danny McDavitt, and proceed to two 19th century numbers called “Lord, Who for Us Was Sacrificed” and “Psalm 43.” The night will move through two international folk songs, from France and Russia, and two hymns, one from the South and one from the Shaker tradition.

The next section, titled, “Our Take on the Beatles,” promises the popular music “Blackbird/I Will,” “Penny Lane” and “Yesterday.” Then, Shakespearean texts and three songs of the American cowboy (“Ghost Riders in the Sky,” “Red River Valley” and “She’ll Be Comin’ ‘Round the Mountain”) will be performed. The show will finish out with the mysterious sounds of the traditional Hebrew “Zum Gali.”
