BYU School of Music plans Instrumental Showcase Sept. 28

Brigham Young University School of Music presents the Instrumental Ensemble Showcase Tuesday, Sept. 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Tickets are available through the Fine Arts Ticket Office at (801) 378-4322 or at www.byu.edu/hfac for $9 with $3 off with student or faculty ID.

The showcase will feature the Philharmonic Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Band.

The showcase is the only performance during the year where the audience can hear all four School of Music instrumental ensembles perform together.

The Symphonic Band under the direction of Donald Peterson will perform "L'Inglesina" by D. Delle Cese, selections from "The Danserye" by Tielman Susato and "Shepherd's Hey" by Percy Grainger.

Under the direction of Eric Hansen, the Symphony Orchestra will perform "The Wild, Wild West" by R. Markowitz arranged by R. Phillippe, "Corral Nocturne" by Aaron Copland and "Pops Hoedown" by Richard Hayman.

The Wind Symphony, conducted by David Blackinton, will perform pieces by Arthur Sullivan, Frank Ticheli and Camille Saint-Saens.

The Philharmonic Orchestra will close the showcase with a performance of "Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche" by Richard Strauss under the direction of Kory Katseanes.
