BYU School of Music plans fall showcase performances Sept. 21-27

In one week, Sept. 21-27, top student performers from Brigham Young University's School of Music will showcase their skills during the annual showcase performances in the de Jong Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for these events, which cost $6 each, are available through the Harris Fine Arts Center Ticket Office, by calling (801) 422-4322 or by visiting byuarts.com/tickets.

• The Choral Showcase: Friday and Saturday, Sept. 21-22, will feature the BYU Singers, Concert Choir, Men’s Chorus and Women’s Chorus. Directors for the choirs are Ronald Staheli, Rosalind Hall and Jean Applonie. Each choir will sing examples of classical, religious and contemporary music. The concert will conclude with a combined song performed by all four groups.

• The Jazz Showcase: Wednesday, Sept. 26, will include three groups: Synthesis, the Jazz Ensemble and the Jazz Legacy Dixieland Band. They will be directed by Ray Smith, Mark Ammons and Steve Call, respectively.

• The Instrumental Showcase: Thursday, Sept. 27, will feature the BYU Philharmonic, Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band under the direction of Kory Katseanes, Christian Smith, Donald Peterson and Kirt Saville. Each ensemble will perform one to three numbers highlighting different compositions and the ensemble’s unique playing style.
