BYU School of Music offers free concerts Dec. 5-10

Brigham Young University’s School of Music will be presenting five free concerts Dec. 5- 10.

• The Harp Ensemble will perform Saturday, Dec. 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall. The ensemble is under the direction of Anamae Anderson and is made up of members of the harp ensemble class at BYU. For more information, contact Anderson at (801) 422-2979.

• A Brass Chamber Night will be featured Tuesday, Dec. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall. A series of quartets and quintets for trombone, brass and horn will be featured. For more information, contact Will Kimball at (801) 422-2375.

• BYU’s Honors Brass Quintet will be performing Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. in B029 Joseph F Smith Building. They will be performing a variety of works for brass instruments.

• The School of Music will also present a “String Chamber Night” Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall featuring top student artists in BYU’s string program.

• A Flute Choir Concert will then finish up the free concerts Thursday, Dec. 10, in the Madsen Recital Hall at 5:30 p.m. The choir is made up of non-flute majors and is under the direction of Danielle Priest, a graduate student at BYU. Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
