BYU School of Music offers free concerts April 8-10

Five free-admission musical events will be featured April 8-10 in the Madsen Recital Hall and de Jong Concert Hall in Brigham Young University's Harris Fine Arts Center.

The BYU Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Eric Hansen will perform Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 9 with guest soloist Barbara Allen April 8 in the de Jong Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m.

Syncopation Vocal Jazz under the direction of Kristie Arnold will perform jazz standards, big-band charts and popular music arranged for either four to eight voices with rhythm section accompaniment or a cappella in the Madsen Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. April 8.

The University Band under the direction of Fred McInnis and the Brass and Trombone Choirs of BYU under the direction of Daniel Bachelder will perform selections from such well-known composers as Aaron Copland, George Frederic Handel and Richard Wagner April 9 in the de Jong Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m.

Group for New Music under the direction of Steven Ricks will perform "Notes From England and Scotland" April 9 in the Madsen Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. The concert will include works by contemporary composers Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Jonathan Harvey and BYU faculty composer Christian Asplund.

The BYU Jazz Lab Band will perform April 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall. Their concert will feature pieces they have learned throughout the semester.
