BYU schedules Young Artists of Voice competition Feb. 17-21

Thirty-five of the best singers in the Brigham Young University School of Music will vie for the title of “Singer of the Year” during the Young Artists of Voice competition Tuesday, Feb. 17, Thursday, Feb. 19, and Saturday, Feb. 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.

The event is free and the public is welcome to attend.

Judges Ewan Mitton, Ruth Ellis, Ian McKay, Betty Jean Chipman and Walter Rudolph from the School of Music faculty and outside BYU will evaluate singers during three rounds of competition.

Twenty-five students will participate in the first round, and the top 10 will join a preselected group of 10 for the second round. Nine students will be selected to participate in the final round of competition.

Participating students include Nadia Bikhazi, Rachel Cox, Katrina Crage, Galadriel De Marco, Carrie Frost, Jacob Goddard, Simone Hardisty, Eric Hart, Christiane Hauser, Taryn Heller, Heather Johnson, Brianne Lindsay, Jennie Litster, Heather McMurray, Bryson Mortensen, Carl Pantle, Amy Petersen, Mele Santos, Scott Seaman, Robyn Torgesen, Raymey Walther, Hyrum Weibell, Elisha Weisgarber, Elaina Wettlaufer, Laura Workman, Jonathan Yarrington, Francesca Forsyth, Candice Johnson, Holly Mesarch, Kelly Newbold, Nathan Pacheco, Marilyn Reid, Lonna Joy Smoot, Sarah Thomas, Jason Vest and Amy Weibell.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
