BYU Redd Center publishes book on San Juan public lands

The Charles Redd Center for Western Studies at Brigham Young University announces the publication of “San Juan County Public Lands,” a 24-page book based on oral history interviews with San Juan County residents.

The Redd Center conducted 36 interviews with ranchers, schoolteachers, homesteaders, photographers, miners, housewives, state and federal employees, former county officials, university professors, tourism leaders and professionals.

The interviews were centered on the residents’ personal use of the public lands and what they hope for the future. The interviewees were asked to talk about their personal experiences rather than the political debates that surround the subject.

The booklet was edited by Charlotte Palfreyman Smith, a BYU graduate student in rhetoric.

BYU planetary geology professor Jani Radebaugh’s contributions to planetary science have reached cosmic proportions as she recently received the prestigious honor of having a minor planet named her. The asteroid, previously known as “45690,” now bears the name “45690janiradebaugh” on official NASA/JPL websites.
