BYU Redd Center collecting stories of Provo Tabernacle, downtown Provo

The College of Family, Home and Social Sciences and The Charles Redd Center for Western Studies at Brigham Young University are conducting oral history interviews and collecting stories about downtown Provo and the Provo Tabernacle. The project will document changes on Provo’s Center Street and in the Provo Tabernacle over the years.

The Redd Center is interested in stories about both the tabernacle and downtown Provo and how they interrelate. The stories gathered will be placed in the L. Tom Perry Special Collections in BYU’s Harold B. Lee Library. They will also be shared with Nu Skin for a historic display in its new building and with the LDS Church Historic Sites, which is documenting the tabernacle’s history and impact.

Area residents are encouraged to share their memories of these historic places. For more information, to share stories or to volunteer to be interviewed, call Jessie L. Embry, associate director of the Redd Center, at 801-422-7585, email the project at historicdowntownprovo@gmail.com or visit the Facebook page Historic Downtown Provo Oral History Project.
