BYU recital March 8 to honor 200th birthday of Franz Liszt

Brigham Young University’s School of Music is commemorating the 200th birthday of Franz Liszt in a piano recital featuring 18 of his popular Hungarian Rhapsodies Tuesday, March 8, at 6 p.m. in the Museum of Art Auditorium. Admission is free.

Liszt was born Oct. 22, 1811, and died July 31, 1886. Students of piano faculty member Jeffrey Shumway will perform 18 of the 19 Hungarian Rhapsodies (Nos. 2–19) that Liszt composed during his career.

Shumway’s student performers for the commemorative concert include Chelsea Shurilla, Kiersten Favero, Mark Witmer, Laura Phipps, Danielle Messina, Kendra Sherman, Lindsey Tobler, Michelle Papenfuss, John Shumway, Christie Sowby, Danai Sirrine, Brent Jackson, Janessa Swensen, Desiree Gonzalez, Kathleen Finlinson , Manuel Delgado, Karissa Baker and Jenny Ballard.
